Indian Railways to Launch Special Safety App for Women Passengers 
1.To curb crimes against women travellers, Railways Tuesday said an all-India mobile application service will be launched through which immediate help from the Railway Protection Force could be availed.

BrahMos missile test-fired from Indian Navy’s stealth destroyer INS Kochi, hits target 
1. Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, with a strike-range of over 290 kms, was test-fired from the navy’s newest stealth destroyer INS Kochi successfully hitting a decommissioned target ship in the Arabian Sea.
2.The second of Project 15A ‘Kolkata-class’ guided missile destroyers test-fired the advanced missile system as part of ‘Acceptance Test Firing’ during a naval drill being conducted along the country’s west coast.

Punjab to set up bio-ethanol refinery 

1.In what a major step towards tackling the menace of wheat and paddy straw burning in Punjab, the State government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a bio-ethanol refinery.
2. The MoU was inked with a consortium of Beta Renewables, Novozymes and CVC India Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. for an estimated project worth Rs. 950 crore, during the Progressive Punjab Investor Summit, 2015.

Ex-Cabinet Secy. to head panel on new education policy 
1.Former Cabinet secretary T.S.R. Subramanian has been appointed chairperson of a committee set up by the Human Resource Development Ministry to draft the new education policy.
2.The committee, which has been mandated to submit the draft of the new policy no later than December 31, 2015, also has on board Shailaja Chandra, former Chief Secretary, NCT of Delhi; Sewaram Sharma, former Home Secretary, NCT of Delhi; Sudhir Mankad, former Chief Secretary of Gujarat, and J.S. Rajput, former Director, NCERT.
3.The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) will act as its Secretariat, the Ministry said in a statement.

AK Jha takes over as CMD, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited 
1.Anil Kumar Jha today took over the charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a leading subsidiary of Coal India.
2.Jha, with 32 years of industrial experience, was Director (Production & Planning) in MOIL Limited before assuming the charge, MCL said in a release.
3.The officer brings with him a rich and diverse experience of mine planning, production, management supervision, direction and control of underground as well as open cast coal mines, it said.
